Services for Children and Youth with developmental disabilities up to 17 years of age

We support families who live in St. Albert and area.

Supports are available for children and youth diagnosed with a developmental disability.  We offer services that focus on building supportive relationships, furthering community engagement, and empowering families. Family Services believes in the meaningful inclusion of children and youth in their community.

Family Services

Family Services believes that all children and youth thrive in a nurturing family and supportive community. Some of the supports that we may be able to assist with are: Respite, Community and Personal Care Aides, Work Related and Behavioural Consultation. Families who have a Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) agreement for their child or youth may be eligible to receive services.

How to access services

  • Call (780) 458-7371 and ask to speak to the Supervisor, Family Supports.
  • Our office is open Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • Please note: to receive respite and other funded supports, your child must have a current Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) Agreement.

More Information 

Respite

(Minimum 3 hour shift )

In-home or out-of-home short-term hourly support based on the needs of the child/youth and family.

Community Support

Child and Youth Worker takes the child into the community with the parent’s consent.  The parent is responsible for any costs associated with community activities and mileage.

Extra Ordinary Child Care (work related)

Work related supports for children age 13 and older and is provided while the parent is working.

Personal Care Aide

The child is dependent on an adult to meet their personal hygiene and other daily personal care needs which are not typical for the age of the child.

Shared Care

Shared care is support provided to two siblings at the same time who both have an active FSCD agreement.

Youth Night OUT and Summer Day Camps

Ages 10-17

The purpose of the summer camp is to provide opportunities for youth to participate in a variety of community activities that will increase their sense of self, while enhancing their independence, friendships and community connectedness.

Behaviour Consultation

Behaviour Consultation support may be available on an as needed basis. The FSCD worker and the parents would collaboratively discuss what that support would entail. The goal is to support parents to learn strategies to manage their child’s behaviours through evidence-based approaches, interventions and programs.
